Frequently Asked Questions
EAN-13 is more common. UPC-A is standard in the USA and Canada. If you are selling your product in several different countries, including the USA and Canada, it is your choice whether to get a barcode in EAN-13 format or UPC-A format. Most scanners can read both EAN and UPC barcodes. Use the same barcode on your product regardless of which country it is in. It is perfectly acceptable to use an EAN (European standard) barcode in North America or a UPC barcode in Hong Kong.
You will receive your unique EAN-13 or UPC-A barcode number by email, along with a guarantee certificate and your barcode images.
The barcode images are 38 mm x 25 mm (standard size). You can resize the barcode if needed. The smallest recommended size is 80% of the standard size, which is approximately 30 mm x 20 mm.
Put your barcode onto your product label or packaging. Once the store receives the product, they will scan the barcode and type your product information into their POS database. This connects your barcode to your product. From that point forward, when they scan your barcode, the product name and details will instantly appear at their checkout. It is best practice to get a different barcode for each product or product variation. This is because stores use barcodes for two primary purposes:
- Price of the product when scanned at the checkout.
- Inventory management and reorder levels for products.
We highly recommend that you have a unique barcode for every individual variation.
Most stores worldwide accept our barcodes. However, there are a few exceptions. For further details, please see our page on Barcode Acceptance.
